What you need to know…
OU ended Texas Tech’s dream season last year, handing the Red Raiders their only loss of the regular season in a 65-21 rout. That game, played in Norman, featured what several players on both teams called the most raucous crowd they have ever seen. While this game does not carry the same national title implications, Texas Tech has not forgotten the humiliation it suffered last year. The OU players and coaches have said they expect a similarly intimidating environment in Lubbock Saturday as the Red Raiders and their fans seek vengeance.
Who to watch...
The Oklahoma secondary, led by cornerbacks Brian Jackson and Dominique Franks, will need to play a major role in this one to shut down Texas Tech’s dangerous passing attack. Both have played well this season, particularly Jackson. Jackson has lined up across from the opposing team’s best receiver each week, and has consistently shut down most of them. He also began the season with an interception in each of OU’s first four games, and had a fumble return for a touchdown last week against Texas A&M.
Texas Tech has used two quarterbacks this season, Taylor Potts and Steven Sheffield. Potts has seen more playing time, but Sheffield has been significantly more efficient. Regardless of who has been throwing the football, the quarterbacks have made use of a deep corps of receivers. Three different players – Detron Lewis, Tramain Swindall and Alexander Torres – each have more than 500 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The Red Raiders can spread the ball around, meaning OU will not be able to key on one receiver as it has in recent weeks.
